Iran is situated in the continent of Asia and in the Middle-East region. This country is counted as one of the most important countries in this part of the world. At one time, the Silk Road passed through this land. Tehran is this country’s largest and most populous city and its capital.

There are many lakes and mountains in Iran. The largest lake in Iran and the world is the Caspian and, since it is larger than all other lakes, we call it a sea. Iran’s highest peak is Damavand, has a height of 5,671 metres and is close to Tehran. There are no mountains taller than Damavand to the west of this area.

The abundance of cultural heritage has validated Iran as one of the cultured countries. Iran’s cultural heritage includes all historical buildings, which thousands of tourists visit each year. Manuscripts, ancient coins, carpets, handicrafts etc. are also part of Iran’s national wealth and cultural heritage. Even scientists, artists, great poets and writers are also counted as part of Iran’s national heritage.

Alongside this cultural and spiritual wealth, Iran also has much material wealth. Oil is Iran’s greatest material wealth. Mines, industry, factories, mountains, rivers, forests, lakes, caviar, crops such as saffron, pistachios, amongst others are Iran’s important material riches.

ایران در قارّۀ آسیا و در منطقۀ خاورمیانه قرار دارد. این کشور یکی از مهم ترین کشورهای این نقطه از جهان به حساب می آید. زمانی جادّۀ ابریشم از این سرزمین می گذشت. تهران بزرگ ترین و پرجمعیّت ترین شهر این کشور و پایتخت آن است.

دریاچه ها و کوه های بسیاری در ایران وجود دارد. بزرگ ترین دریاچۀ ایران و جهان خزر است و چون از همۀ دریاچه ها بزرگ تر است به آن دریا می گوییم. بلندترین قلّۀ ایران دماوند ۵۶۷۱ متر ارتفاع دارد و نزدیک تهران است. از این محل به سمت غرب هیچ کوهی به بلندی دماوند وجود ندارد.

وسعت میراث فرهنگیِ ایران، آن را یکی از کشورهای شناخته شده در جهان کرده است. میراث فرهنگی ایران شامل تمام بناهای تاریخی است که هر سال هزاران جهان گرد از آن دیدن می کنند.  کتاب های خطّی، سکّه های قدیمی، فرش، صنایع دستی و غیره  نیز جزو ثروت ملّی و میراث فرهنگی ایران هستند. حتّی دانشمندان، هنرمندان، شاعران و نویسندگان بزرگ هم جزو میراث ملّی ایرانیان به حساب می آیند.

ایران در کنار این ثروت فرهنگی و معنوی، ثروت های مادّی بسیاری نیز دارد. نفت بزرگ ترین ثروت مادّی ایران است. معادن، صنایع، کارخانه ها، کوه ها، رودها، جنگل ها، دریاچه ها، خاویار، محصولات کشاورزی مانند زعفران و پسته از دیگر ثروت های مادّیِ مهمّ ایران هستند.

Maryam: What is Iran’s export like?
Bahman: It’s really good. It’s grown since last year.
Maryam: What does Iran export, other than oil?
Bahman: Carpets, saffron, caviar and cars are some of Iran’s non-oil exports.
Maryam: Did you say Iran exports cars?
Bahman: Yeah, there are some good automotive factories in Iran.
