Skiing in Shiraz

Last year, my mother and father wanted to go to Iran for the Christmas holidays. They wanted to take me with them too, but I wanted to go to Switzerland to ski.

My father said that Iran also has really good ski slopes. At first I didn’t believe him because I thought it didn’t snow in Iran, but upon my father’s insistence, I finally accepted to go to Iran.

When the aeroplane landed at the Tehran airport and we got off the plane, I saw that everywhere was full of snow. We went from the airport to my grandmother’s house and stayed there for two days. From there we went to Shiraz. My father wanted to show us the sights of Shiraz, like Takht-e Jamshid (Persepolis), Pasargad and the Vakil Bazaar, and take us to a ski slope near to Shiraz.

In Shiraz, we wanted to stay at dear Uncle Arash’s house, but he and his family were on a trip, so we decided to stay at a hotel. On the first and second day, we saw some sights, but I wanted to go skiing sooner. Therefore, on the third day, we went by bus to the ski slope. I couldn’t believe it. It was both huge and deserted. We stayed at a four-star hotel. The rooms there were both clean and cheap.

For skiing we got a trainer and rented ski equipment, trousers, jackets, boots, hats and goggles. I skied every day with my father and mother from morning until late afternoon.

I had so much fun on that holiday and after two weeks, I didn’t want to return to England.

سالِ گذشته پدر و مادرم می خواستند برایِ تعطیلاتِ کریسمس به ایران بروند. آنها می خواستند من را هم با خودشان ببرند، امّا من می خواستم برایِ اسکی به سویس بروم.

 پدرم گفت که ایران هم پیست هایِ اسکیِ بسیار خوبی دارد. ابتدا باورم نمی شد زیرا فکر می کردم در ایران برف نمی بارد، ولی با اصرار پدرم بالاخره قبول کردم به ایران برویم.

 وقتی هواپیما در فرودگاهِ تهران نشست و از هواپیما پیاده شدیم، دیدم همه جا پر از برف است. از فرودگاه به خانۀ مادربزرگم رفتیم و دو روز آنجا ماندیم. از آنجا به شیراز رفتیم. پدرم می خواست جاهایِ دیدنیِ شیراز مثل تخت جمشید (پرسپولیس)، پاسارگاد و بازارِ وکیل را به ما نشان دهد و ما را به یک پیستِ اسکی در نزدیکیِ شیراز ببرد.

 در شیراز می خواستیم در خانۀ عمو بهمنِ عزیزم بمانیم ولی او و خانواده اش در مسافرت بودند، پس تصمیم گرفتیم به هتل برویم. روزِ اوّل و دوّم مکان هایِ دیدنیِ شیراز را دیدیم، امّا من می خواستم زودتر به اسکی بروم. بنابراین روزِ سوّم با اتوبوس به پیستِ اسکی رفتیم. باورم نمی شد. هم بزرگ بود و هم خلوت. آنجا در یک هتلِ چهار ستاره ماندیم. اتاق هایش هم تمیز بود و هم ارزان.

 برایِ اسکی یک مربّی گرفتیم، وسایلِ اسکی، شلوار، کاپشن، پوتین، کلاه و عینک اجاره کردیم. هر روز از صبح تا عصر با پدر و مادرم اسکی می کردم.

در این تعطیلات به من خیلی خوش گذشت و بعد از دو هفته دلم نمی خواست به انگلیس برگردم.

Neda: Why didn’t you go to the swimming pool?
Arash: I wanted to go, but my car has broken down.
Neda: Ok, why didn’t you go with your friend, Mehrdad?
Arash: I wanted to go with Mehrdad, but he was ill.
Neda: Do you want me to give you a lift?
Arash: But didn’t you want to go to painting class?
Neda: I wanted to go, but today the class is off.
