Lesson 31
We Can Have a Good Practice
***
Translation
Today is Saturday. My brother and I really like Saturdays because we can go to the sports club. My father takes us by car and there we practise running. My brother is a good runner and can run faster than all the children at school.
It is arranged that next week we will take part in a youth athletics competition. Today we can have a good practice. My father is our coach and, for him, speed is more important than anything else. Ten years ago, he, himself, was a national running champion, but he never went to the Olympics because, just before the competitions, he had heart pains and doctors operated on him. They said that my father shouldn’t exercise anymore.
Actually, the next Olympics is going to be held in our country and my father wants to buy tickets for some of the competitions and take us with him. In my father’s opinion, the most important part of the Olympics is the one hundred metre sprint because the fastest runner can run this race in less than ten seconds. From now on we are really excited because we are going to be able to see the final of this race close-up. We want to know who will come first this time and whether they can break the previous person’s record.
