Lesson 23
Around the World in Thirteen Years
***
Translation
At twenty seven years old, Jason Lewis started his journey around the world from London. On this journey he didn’t use car, bus, ship or aeroplane. Jason made his journey of about seventy five thousand kilometres on foot, by bicycle, pedal boat, rowing boat and skating. He even swam a portion of this route. On this journey, Jason passed through thirty seven countries and visited 900 schools in these countries to speak to the pupils.
When he left London, his friend Stevie Smith was with him. They traversed France, Spain and Portugal on bicycle and went from the port of Lagos in Portugal to Miami in America on pedal boat. These two passed a distance of 5,600 kilometres in this country and, from there, went by boat to Hawaii. After that, Jason continued the remainder of his journey without his friend.
Jason’s journey was extremely problematic and full of adventure and he had one bitter incident . One time in Australia a crocodile attacked him, but something worse happened to him too. In America, a very elderly driver hit him with a car and both of his legs broke. After this accident, Jason was hospitalised for six weeks, then forced to rest for nine months.
After thirteen years, on the sixth of October, 2007, Jason returned to London.
