New Gizmos

Translation

Leyla is sixteen years old. When she goes to school, she takes her iPhone and iPad with her. All along the way Leyla takes photos of everything, reads her e-mails and listens to music.

In contrast to her father, she really loves new equipment and technology and she finds it easy to use them. Sometimes she teaches her parents how to use new technology and she even knows more about using these gizmos than her teachers. In Leyla’s opinion, a class without computers and technology is boring, but in the opinion of some of her teachers, excessive use of these types of technology in the class, and especially computer games, is a waste of time.

Leyla and her classmates find information from websites with ease and even complete their exercises online.

They wait days and months for new gizmos. When a new model comes, they go to big stores like Apple, stand in line for hours, and buy their lovely new equipment on that very first day.

لیلا شانزده ساله است. وقتی به دبیرستان می رود، آیفون و آیپدش را با خود می برد. لیلا در طولِ راه از همه چیز عکس می گیرد، ایمیل هایش را می خواند و به موسیقی گوش می دهد.

بر خلافِ پدرش، او وسایل و تکنولوژی های جدید را خیلی دوست دارد و کارکردن با آنها برایش آسان است. گاهی به والدینش استفاده از فناوریِ های جدید را یاد می دهد و حتّی بیشتر و بهتر از معلّم هایش دربارۀ استفاده از این ابزارها می داند! به نظرِ لیلا، کلاسِ بدونِ کامپیوتر و تکنولوژی کسل کننده است، امّا به نظرِ بعضی از معلّم هایش، استفادۀ زیاد از این نوع فناوری ها در کلاس و به ویژه بازی هایِ کامپیوتری اتلافِ وقت است. 

لیلا و همکلاسی هایش به راحتی اطّلاعات را از وبسایت ها پیدا می کنند و حتّی تمرین هایشان را آنلاین انجام می دهند.

آنها روزها و ماه ها منتظرِ ابزارهایِ جدید می مانند. وقتی مدلِ جدیدی می آید، به فروشگاه هایِ بزرگ مانند اپل می روند، ساعت ها در صف می ایستند و در همان روزِ اوّل، وسیلۀ دوست داشتنیِ جدیدشان را می خرند.

Maryam: Did you buy the new iPod?
Leila: Yeah.
Maryam: Congratulations. How is it?
Leila: It’s really good.
Maryam: Is it easy to work with?
Leila: Yeah. It’s like the iPhone. It’s really fast too.
Maryam: Do you take photos with it?
Leila: Yeah. I take photos, listen to music and watch films.

Maryam: My iPhone’s broken. It doesn’t connect to the internet.
Leila: Turn it off and back on and it will be fixed.
